The focus of our project is to begin the standardization process between different faculty buildings, starting with occupancy sensors for air conditioning. Simple occupancy sensor systems automatically turn off the air conditioning when no movement is detected for a set period of time, ensuring energy is only consumed when spaces are actively in use.
This takes a few steps:
- Petition to install a power-meter at model classrooms, which have occupancy sensors installed
- Alternate days with the occupancy sensor system being on or off, and note down power usage
- Project power savings out to 3 years, 5 years, 10 years
- Present findings to administrative bodies
- Petition to standardize occupancy sensors within a set time frame
